Safe observations
Keep clear of standing water that may contain wastewater. Record whether indoor drains, alarms or outdoor wet areas changed, and when rain ended. Do not open tanks or attempt to pump water out yourself.
What to ask
Explain the weather timing to a qualified septic provider and ask which assessments are appropriate under current conditions. Some findings may require a follow-up after conditions change; have those limitations documented.
Longer-term discussion
Ask whether surface drainage or changes around the system warrant separate professional review. Any proposed grading, drain installation or landscaping should account for the actual system location and applicable requirements.
Before booking
Tell the provider if there is an active backup, exposed opening or alarm so they can prioritize the information appropriately.
